>_ Farental client now open source
19-07-2026

Grem'talor to you all!

For the sake of transparency and to alleviate concerns about Farental, I’ve decided to make the project open source.

This is a step forward in a direction I had in mind anyway. But with this release, I realized it’s understandable that people might doubt the game client’s safety.

I’ve chosen the GPL-3.0 license for the project, which primarily prevents anyone from creating closed-source copies of it.

The code isn’t perfect, and development is ongoing. I hadn’t planned on making the project public this soon.

Unfortunately, I don’t consider this a community project. I’ve disabled pull requests on the repo. However, I’ve enabled discussions, and issues can also be used.

I hope no problems I haven’t thought of will arise from this release. I did it to prove my good faith.

You might consider creating your own client; I’m not opposed to that as long as it remains open source. I don’t yet intend to make the API documentation public, so it would mainly involve copying what’s already in the code.

Given the many updates to come, I wouldn’t encourage it. You’d have a hard time keeping up with the changes.

See you soon for more adventures!
